This film is a portrait of the artist Maarten Brinkman. It was shot on the 5th of May 2014.
The film shows Maarten Brinkman working in my atelier. He is installing one of the art works that is going to be part of the exhibition "thread sketch". The exhibition took place on the 10th and 11th of May 2014 in my atelier, Lijnbaansgracht 66 Amsterdam.

In the first photograph, Gilbert guide George to center the podium, in the middle of the space.

In the second photograph, George returns to check the centering.

 

These two photographs were taken secretly, the museum was completely empty, it was three hours before their performance. Everyone had gone to lunch. Gilbert & George, knew themselves to be alone. These images testify that their attitude in their intimacy is the same as in public...

PRESENTATION OF A NEW COLLECTION

This film is part of my collection, "newsreels". Faithful to the tradition of newsreel for cinema (at a time when television did not exist) I film as a reporter with my pinhole camera, an important event. Each film deals with a news, with the means of cinema which blend poetry, magic and the aberrations pinhole images.

 

MY INTENTION

Once again, I am interested in the significance of the images resulting of constraints and the aberrations, when I use my pinhole camera to film "newsreels". This type has disappeared from movie theaters in favor of advertising, it has definitely converted into video report gradually and when television ensured its technological mutation, causing his media domination on the cinema. But what remains of about 2':48'' of an event seen in a TV news, one looks more on a screen that fits in your hand ?

 

I try to bring the news to the cinema, to replace it in another space-time, that of a distant time when you could just go to the cinema to see the news, to learn, to discover, to dream. And never mind thatwedid not likethe film after...
