HOMMAGE A PHILIPPE LAMBERT, MON AMI SMOOTH ONE

C'est avec une très grande tristesse que j'ai appris le décès de mon ami compositeur Philippe Lambert, connu sous le nom d'artiste de Smooth One.

Philippe se battait depuis plusieurs mois contre un méchant cancer. Il est parti hier à 15:30, à Paris. Toutes mes pensées vont à sa famille.

Pour accompagner la lecture de cet hommage, vous pouvez écoutez, ci-dessous, la musique originale, composée par Philippe, à l'occasion de mon exposition "L'atelier Schlomoff, 100 portraits et plus si affinités" à Monaco, 2012. Cette musique faisait partie de mon installation de "chambre sténopé" au sein de cette exposition.

Philippe était aussi le compagnon de toutes mes aventures filmiques pour "CHANEL". C'est à lui que je demandais de m'aider pour réaliser ces projets fous de films pour les expositions CHANEL. Je n'avais pas besoin d'un assistant, j'avais besoin d'un complice de cette folie indissociable de chaque projet. L'humour et la bonne humeur étaient notre moteur, notre stimulant. Je garde, aujourd'hui, tellement de bons souvenirs de cette amitié, qu'il me semble toujours là, avec son petit regard pince sans rire, qu'il affiche sur son portrait...

It is with great sadness that I learned of the death of my friend composer Philippe Lambert, known by the artist name of Smooth One.

Philippe had been fighting for several months against a nasty cancer. He left yesterday at 3:30 pm, in Paris. All my thoughts are with his family.

To accompany the reading of this tribute, you can listen, below, to the 
original music, composed by Philippe, on the occasion of my exhibition 
"L'atelier Schlomoff, 100 portraits et plus si affinités" in Monaco, 2012. 
This music was part of my "pinhole camera" installation in this exhibition.

But, Philippe was also the companion of all my film adventures for "CHANEL". 
It is to him that I asked to help me to make these crazy projects of films for the 
CHANEL exhibitions, I did not need an assistant, I needed an accomplice of this 
madness inseparable from each project. 
Humor and good humor were our driving force, our stimulus. 
Today, I have so many good memories of this friendship, that it still seems to me 
there, with his little tongue-in-cheek glance that we can see in his portrait ...

CHANEL IS BEIGE - EXHIBITION

You are cordially invited to the exhibition: "CHANEL IS BEIGE"

This exhibition presents a series of photographs of haute couture clothing, High jewelry jewels and exclusive perfumes.

These photographs were taken in Coco Chanel's apartment, 31 rue Cambon in Paris, in 2007, for the edition of the book of the exhibition "CHANEL L'ART COMME UNIVERS" at the request of Jean-Louis Froment, curator of this exhibition, which was held at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow,

Beige being one of the symbolic colors for CHANEL, I chose to edit these black and white images with a beige tint.

NOTE: Because of COVID-19, there is no opening, you can come when you want, during the week making sure that I am present by calling me on 06 38 46 73 94. And weekends on appointment, at the same number.

The Sense of Places, an exhibition

As inspirational subjects that go beyond mere geographical locations, Gabrielle Chanel’s places especially marvel for some intangible radiance, which for an instant unravels the way they are perceived in reality, and makes them uncannily hers.
Still today, these same sensations enliven the creations of the House of CHANEL.

Often linked to romantic liaisons, the places visited within the latest CULTURE CHANEL exhibition in Seoul, draft out a “Map of Tendre”, a promenade through this great couturière’s secret twists and turns, to settle momentarily in yet another place enamoured of modernity: the Dongdaemun Design Plaza with its architecture designed by Zaha Hadid.

Saumur, Brive, Aubazine, Moulins, Royallieu, Paris, Deauville, Venice, Biarritz, Roquebrune, Eaton Hall, Hollywood and New York are figments of which she retained just the outlines, her unique experience of each would then be transposed into her work.

However, there is one special place, one where a life draws to a close, and one which embraces all the others: Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment at 31 rue Cambon, Paris.
Here unfolds the setting for her innermost intrigues.
Here the spirit of places is embodied.

This apartment is a storybook account of her friendships and her loves, broken up and then reconstructed in the same octagonal mirrors - a memento of the impression the church tower at the abbey in Aubazine left - that reflect all the great moments in her life.

It is the place that expresses the intuitive science of Gabrielle Chanel’s poetic, imaginary world.

Chinese ballades in the Coromandel screens, old Venetian gold on the walls, Korean glazed stoneware, animals escaped from the forest of Compiègne encounter sacred deer from Japanese temples, the bust of a canon and a virgin from Bourgogne make eyes at Egyptian death masks, bestiaries from the four continents where the lion is king, and then the ears of wheat; so many intimate connections from within her diffracted memory, so many fragments from her continually re-invented biographical journey.

Then, there is that permanent place of thought, a place of endless resonances that unite the great couturière and the books found in her library, and it is needless to say how much the thrum of her reading whispers to her the invisible life of things.
From these she would form her own perspectives.

It is here at 31 rue Cambon that she secretly held communion with the ghostly messages from these clandestine occupants she shared her life with, and where she travelled through the architecture of cities she had never visited or where she dreamt of the landscapes depicted in the books of her library.

It is here, on the other side of a mirror, in a secret place of private fascination that all journeys and all the moments spent, imaginary or real, end up and mingle.
Gabrielle Chanel would know how to intercept these; to unravel and give them a form which would become the spirit of CHANEL reactivated each day under the living light of contemporary creation.
